DESCRIPTION:Session 1: Leah Schatz\, MLT Lawyer Workplace Investigations Time: 9:00-12:00 Session Description: The Workplace Investigations Presentation will provide an effective overview of the necessary components in a workplace investigation and how to conduct investigations effectively. The session will be a lecture style with opportunities for questions. Participants will learn the tips and traps of conducting workplace investigations and how to be effective in conducting them.\n\nParticipants will:\n\n	Understand the basics of workplace investigations\n	 Apply the legal threshold in determining if an investigation meets legal requirements.\n	 Analyze workplace investigations.\n	 Learning Objectives:\n	 Learn current case law and workplace investigations\;\n	 Examine effective components of workplace investigations\; and\n	Examine statutory framework surrounding the necessary workplace investigation.\n\nLeah Schatz\, Partner MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP Leah Schatz practices as a partner with MacPherson\, Leslie & Tyerman LLP\, exclusively in the area of labour and employment law. She advises both employers and employees on issues related to the workplace\, and acts in a variety of roles in collective bargaining\, occupational health and safety\, and human rights\, including representing employers as chief spokesperson during collective bargaining and conducting workplace investigations. She has lectured extensively throughout Saskatchewan\, and spoken at a variety of national conferences on labour and employment issues affecting workplaces. Learning Objectives:\n\n	What is the legal framework for privacy of employee personal information in Saskatchewan\n	How to deal with misuse of social media that amounts to personal harassment or other disciplinable conduct\n	What are the legal issues arising from "bring your own device" policies\n\nPresenter: Shannon Whyley\, Partner MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP Shannon Whyley advises employers on legal issues affecting the workplace. She regularly counsels employers on policy development\, discrimination and harassment\, employment agreements\, accommodation issues\, restrictive covenants\, severance\, compliance with labour standards\, and issues involving privacy in the workplace. She acts for both unionized and non-unionized employers of all sizes. Shannon has represented employers in grievance arbitrations\, human rights complaints\, Labour Relations Board matters and wrongful dismissal actions\, and has appeared on their behalf before courts and tribunals in Ontario and Saskatchewan. She majored in Human Resources Management during her undergraduate studies\, and practiced management-side labour and employment law in Toronto for several years prior to joining MLT.
