SUMMARY:SACL Workshop: Speak Up! Become an Effective Advocate
DESCRIPTION:The Saskatchewan Association for Community Living (SACL) is proud to present: Speak Up! Become an Effective Advocate for Children and Youth.  This workshop is facilitated by Elaine Caswell and Louise Burridge and is targeted for families with children still in school.\n\n \n\nYou are your child's advocate.  In this informative workshop\, gain a better understanding of your child's educational rights.  Come and learn useful tips and successful approaches from professionals with many years of experience working within the school system.\n\n \n\nWhen: Thursday\, November 30\, 2017 at 6:30-9:30 p.m.\n\nWhere: Prince Albert: Knight Hall\, Plaza 88 (888 Central Avenue).\n\nFree parking is available in Plaza 88's parking lot.  The main entrance is off the parking lot.\n\nCost: The event is sponsored by the SACL and is FREE to attend\n\n \n\nRegistration is limited to 45 participants so please register early by emailing Nicole Graham at nicole.graham@sacl.org\n\n \n\nThe workshop will teach parents and professionals:\n\n \n\n       How to be an effective advocate\;\n\n       How to communicate effectively\; and\n\n       How to resolve conflict.\n\n \n\nIt will also provide an overview of:\n\n \n\n       Educational rights and responsibilities\;\n\n       The school system as a whole\; and\n\n          Where to access additional supports.\n\n \n\nTarget audience:\n\n \n\n	Parents with children still in school\n	Caregivers\n	Teachers\n	School administrators\n	Educational Assistants\n	Professional service providers and support agencies\n\n \n\nPresenters: \n\n \n\nElaine Caswell has always demonstrated her commitment to utilizing student/parent centred approaches in her teacher and administrative roles.  Elaine would be known at the provincial level for saying and meaning\, 'failure is not an option.' \n\nElaine brings passion\, experience and empowerment!\n\n \n\nLouise Burridge is a passionate occupational therapist who has been practicing for over 17 years in school\, childcare\, home and hospital settings.
