Celebrating the Wolf

A celebration of the Mann Art Gallery’s latest acquisition, the long-awaited bronze wolf sculpture by Joe Fafard and Opening of Sunny Ways, an exhibition of Joe Fafard’s small bronze works (organized by Slate Fine Art Gallery) on display at the Mann Art Gallery from May 27th – July 9th will be:

In 2011 the Mann Art Gallery was presented with the opportunity to acquire a one-of-a-kind bronze sculpture by internationally-renowned artist, Joe Fafard. For the past five years, the Gallery has been diligently fundraising to add this piece to its Permanent Collection. We are pleased to announce that in early May 2016 it was installed. Situated across the entrance of the Gallery, the sculpture provides Prince Albert and surrounding area a remarkable piece of public art that significantly enhances this region’s visual culture.

Joe Fafard was born in Ste. Marthe SK and received his BFA from the University of Manitoba and his MFA from Pennsylvania State University.  After teaching at the University of Regina from 1968 to 1974, he opened his foundry, Julienne Atelier Inc., in Pense SK. Fafard has had numerous national and international solo exhibitions. His works are in public and private collections throughout Canada. His achievements also include the Order of Canada, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, a Saskatchewan Arts Board Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for the Arts.
